I've decided to make a post of the frequently asked questions that I get about Gelish.
1.) What is Gelish?
Gelish/gel polish is a long wearing gel polish. The gel is cured under a Led lamp.
2.) How long will it last?
You should be able to get around 2-3 weeks out of a gelish set on your hands and anything up to 6 weeks on the toes!
3.) Is it bad for your nails?
Not if it's removed correctly. By using acetone the gel polish will become soft and easy to scrape off. Some gels need to be buffed off rather than soaked off. I charge £3 for a removal or if you are having a set of gelish re applied it's free! Gel polishes are excellent for keeping the natural nail strong. Avoid biting, picking or peeling any gel polish off as this can severely weaken the natural nail underneath.
4.) What should I do before having my nails done?
Prior to a Gelish treatment there isn't a lot of preparation needed. The nails should ideally have a slight bit of length so that the gel can be caped off at the ends, meaning that the gel will last longer. If there is no free edge to the nail then there is the possibility that the Gelish won't be as long lasting.
5.) After having my nails done what do I need to do?
After having Gelish there are a few things that you will need to do. The Gelish will be instantly dry so there is no worry of smudging the polish but suncream, insect repellant, alcohol hand rub and some cleaning products are able to lift the Gelish causing it to chip. Avoid soaking the hands/toes under water for any lengthy periods of time and always wear gloves to do the washing up.
6.) When will I need them re-done?
Your nails should realistically need a new set of Gelish around the 2-2.5 weeks. The Gelish will grow out with the nail.
